Smart Hiring

With so many clients building and restructuring their teams, I wanted to take a moment to re-address the importance of smart hiring. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending the time – and often the money – to make a great hire but then discovering it’s the wrong person for the team, and for the company: and for you.

One of the primary difficulties in hiring is that both the interviewer and the interviewee are on their best behavior, hoping for a successful outcome. The entrepreneur is probably at the point of desperation and the interviewee is certainly putting their best foot forward to try to get a job. Therefore, it is likely you are not getting a 100% true read on the talents and the fit of the individual.

This is why I cannot emphasize enough the importance of using DISC in hiring. A DISC assessment gives you a 360-read on a candidates’ work style and how well they match the team’s and the company’s style. If you haven’t already done it already, additional assessments across the entire company allow us to better understand how that interviewee will fit into the current team and help shore up some deficiencies the candidate may have.

Entrepreneurs grow their business. That is the most important thing. Our goal is to get a team built around them that will allow the entrepreneur to push their vision. These assessments offer a deep dive look at the skills and the personalities, which can then be tailored to fit a perfect match for your vision board.

It may also be helpful to have distance on the hires using a third party like Well Coached that can match skills sets and company needs based on a shared vision. Reading a DISC assessment is an acquired skill that goes far beyond “She’s a high I” or “he has no C”. Proper assessment interpretation and team comparisons are critical to saving you time and money and effort in building a great team for your business. If you’re interested in having Well Coached help with your hiring, let’s talk.
